About Beat Giger: At the age of 16, Beat Giger started his culinary training and hospitality career in Switzerland, his native country. Giger completed his culinary apprenticeship in Zürich and attended the Hotelfachschule in Lucerne. He worked at numerous internationally acclaimed five-star resorts and hotels throughout Switzerland, and on the luxury steamship, SS Rotterdam, traveling around the globe in the early part of his career. At the age of twenty four, Beat Giger worked at the Silberhorn Hotel in Wengen in his first Executive Chef position. Two years later he was recruited by a Swiss hotel management team to open a five-star hotel in Guayaquil, Ecuador. After working in Ecuador and traveling throughout South America, Beat Giger moved to Palm Beach, Florida to work at the five-star Breakers Hotel. From Florida, Giger was recruited to California where he worked in the San Francisco Bay Area to open the luxurious Blackhawk Country Club as Executive Chef and later worked at the Concord Hilton Hotel. During this time he taught in the Culinary Arts Program and served as the Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program at Diablo Valley College.

In 1987 Beat Giger earned the Certified Executive Chef (C.E.C.) title from the American Culinary Federation. He was also honored with the prestigious Chef of the Year award from the Pacific Coast Chefs Association. In 1988 he became Executive Chef at The Lodge at Pebble Beach and remained there as Executive Chef for 13 years. While at Pebble Beach, Giger was again named Chef of the Year from Monterey Peninsula Chef's Association. He was Chairman of Food and Beverage Operations at the 2000 Pebble Beach U.S. Open Golf Championship and also orchestrated all food and beverage aspects for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Golf Tournament, The Champions Tour-First Tee Open at Pebble Beach and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

Pebble Beach Resorts promoted Beat Giger to the Director of Special Events/Corporate Chef position in 2001. He now orchestrates logistics, food and beverage, as well as all the operational aspects of the resorts' special events such as the golf tournaments, world renowned car shows, and the Pebble Beach Food & Wine. One of Beat's major achievements has been establishing ongoing relationships with universities and culinary schools, integrating Pebble Beach events management classes into their curriculum. This has proved to be a successful program overseen by Beat Giger and has provided many students with hands-on opportunities in the special events arena and culinary areas at Pebble Beach Resorts. Beat Giger was inducted in the Star Walk of Fame at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco.

One of the highlights of Beat Giger's career was as Chairman of the Food and Beverage Operations for the 2000 and 2010 U.S. Open Golf Championships. These week-long major events included daily galleries of over fifty thousand golf fans, one thousand members of the media, and five thousand volunteers to feed.

Along with his membership in the Resort Food Executive Committee he is a member of Les Toques Blanches and the American Culinary Federation. He also holds the prestigious American Academy of Chefs (A.A.C.) accreditation. Beat Giger was awarded highest honors and was inducted into the Epicurean Antonin Carême Society. In addition he has been awarded a fellowship by California State University Monterey Bay.

Beat Giger enjoys spending any free time with his wife Kathy and their two children, Tylor and Madison. Whenever possible, a ride on his Harley Davidson Fat Boy sets the tone for some fun and relaxation.
